The 11th Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema (PFWC) will begin a second decade of great film in the Greater Philly area on April 4th, 2002. Over a period of 15 days, the festival will present 274 screenings of 157 feature films, 19 documentaries, 69 short subjects and one animation program from 49 different countries.
The PFWC features a total of four world premieres — Japan’s “Bastoni-The Stick Handlers” and the United States’ “Emmett’s Mark,” “Southside” and “Bikini Bandits: The Movie,” whose kick-a*s cast includes Corey Feldman and Maynard James Keenan — also known as the vocalist for the amazing Tool. Almost all of the remaining Festival films are making their first-ever screen appearance in Philadelphia.
On closing day, April 17th, 2002, the PFWC hosts the east coast premiere of “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys” by music video director Peter Care. The film stars Jodie Foster and Kieran Caulkin, and is based on the 1992 cult-classic book of the same name. And as a special closing day clincher, the Festival will also screen a marathon encore presentation of the event’s ten most popular films.
