Academy Award winning documentarian Barbara Kopple (“American Dream”) follows Woody Allen and his New Orleans jazz band on a tour through Europe. The music’s pretty darn good, but what makes the languorous docu-drama so mesmerizing is the quirky wit of Allen. Here he’s even more neurotic and comical than anyone at his gigs. Of course Soon-Yi is in tow, though she constantly seems to be mugging the camera while Allen is natural, fluid and engaging, even when being harassed by teaming paparazzi. Not quite the type of political punchiness one would expect from Kopple, but it does answer a lot of questions about Allen who obviously had a strong hand in the film’s compilation.
