“Us” is a heartbreaking seven minute movie that examines the lasting effects of losing a loved one and how their lingering memory can keep a hold on us whether we like it or not. A woman lying in bed with her husband awakes one night to make herself some warm milk, and is questioned by her angry husband. The questioning ends when she goes back to an empty bed and she delivers the surprise twist for the film that really had me basically confused and then upon realization of the meaning, depressed. It’s sad to lose one we’ve cherished, and it’s even worse when we’re constantly tormented by their memories to the point where we can’t turn around without discovering them. “Us” examines that concept well in its brief window.
