“Totem,” which is featured on the same DVD as the horror movie Jigsaw isn’t much of a fright fest. In fact, there are times during the film that you’ll be hard pressed to keep yourself from falling asleep, and that’s not a good sign when it comes to a horror movie.
The plot is fairly basic: An old totem causes six teenagers, who were brought together by mysterious circumstances, to kill or be killed. Think of a really low budget, unoriginal
Battle Royale. The characters are taken right out of the “How to Make Horror Movies Handbook,” and none of the actors really do anything to bring them to life. At least the laughable special effects are entertaining.
This is the kind of horror movie kids who are afraid of true horror films watch. You know, “The Exorcist” and “Cannibal Holocaust” just scare the crap out of them, so they stick to these safe tales instead. At its best, it’s a mindless diversion for an hour. At its worst, it takes away from quality masturbation time.
