Contestant #1 is notable for reviewing a number of DVDs that he has not only never seen, he hasn’t even opened them… and goes on at-length about each one. Still, the boy is rocking some serious Chigurgh hair, so I hesitate to make fun too much…
Contestant #2 is the mighty, mighty Sexman. At least he’s seen the films he’s talking about, though we don’t actually get much about the plot from his “Rambo” review, and he admits to having very little knowledge of the franchise…
The writing is on the wall. We’re all f****d…
Oy. That’s why YouTube is such a double-edged sword for me. I love the bootleg clips of classic stuff, but this self-indulgent webcam babble gives me the shivers.
I hardly think you quit, Mike. You’ve got two of your own sites rocking now, what with the film-centric bronsonfive and blog-centric Pictures of Doom (and I dig them both).
The world of paying for writing is drying up, but so is the world of paying for movies, music or anything that can be spread for free on the internet. No one wants to pay for content, thus no one can pay to have content. It sucks, period. So you either accept that you do what you do because you love it and keep fighting, or you move on and… no judgments either way.
I like to think that when folks see how film writing can be done from site like us, or yours, that it becomes apparent that not just anyone can do this gig, and the videos above simply cement my point. People like to make fun of Gore doing reviews on G4, but compare his less-than-five-minutes to review 3 films on DVDuesday to “I ate Anton Chirgurh” above and you’ll see… there is skill and talent to what we do.
I don’t know, I’m too stubborn to up and quit. Anyone can be an actor, apparently anyone can be a singer, and anyone can write about movies, I just want to keep doing it regardless of what douche with a video camera can do. It’s either that or I’ll be babbling to a microwave.
It’s hard enough to want to continue earning a paycheck in this industry, especially now, when every a*****e can do it. And no matter how good or bad they are, they always have a website to write for. And you can only do something for so long, without pay, before you decide to call it a day. I think that day is coming soon for me.
Come again?
No Felix. This is why I quit.
I have so much respect for the critics at Film Threat that it pains me to watch these two videos. These two “critics” are indeed a black eye for online film criticism and film criticism in general.
That’s it. I quit.
