The Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences (AMAS), an organization that provides advocacy, education and community building awareness for the entertainment medium known as Machinima: the art or technique of film making using real-time 3D virtual environments, has teamed up with NVIDIA Corporation, the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, to host the first Machinima Film Festival on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Trail Dust Restaurant in Mesquite, Texas.
The one-day event will include screenings of Machinima films, workshops hosted by Machinima filmmakers, special screenings, talks with award-winning independent filmmakers and kiosks where attendees can take a crack at making their own Machinima films. The event will culminate in an awards ceremony where some of the best Machinima filmmakers will be recognized for their creative artistry in this new and powerful entertainment medium that’s set to revolutionize the world of animation.
“The Machinima Film Festival marks the beginning of a definitive event where all Machinima filmmakers will have a platform to show-off their creations,” said Sanford Russell, senior director of partner marketing at NVIDIA. “This event recognizes 3D as a true art form and we’re pleased to see the Machinima film community taking advantage of our graphics processors. We look forward to forging a long-term relationship with the Machinima community to provide them with the best possible tool set for realizing their creative visions.”
The event will also feature a historical retrospective of Machinima filmmaking produced by Fountainhead Entertainment that will be shown at the awards ceremony. Designed to recognize excellence in Machinima filmmaking, entrants’ work will be judged in 10 categories: Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Writing, Best Acting, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Visual Design, Best Independent Film Effort and Best Technical Achievement (software/hardware vendor-oriented). An Honorary Award will also be given to an individual whose contributions have significantly impacted the Machinima arts. The submission deadline is August 9th.
