15. The Skeleton Key ^ “Psychological horror” is generally Hollywood code speak for “boring,” especially when the film in question is PG-13. That isn’t the case here, for “The Skeleton Key” isn’t exactly dull (the word most likely to be used in reviews is “languorous”), but it isn’t scary either.
14. House of Wax ^ Blah, blah, blah…former music video director…blah, blah, blah…picked off one by one…blah, blah, blah…covered in boiling wax…blah, blah, blah…the whole town?…blah, blah, blah…faces the killer in a climactic showdown. The word processing program that churned out the “House of Wax” script didn’t really exert itself too much.
13. Land of the Dead ^ “Land” falls well short of the greatness of Romero’s previous zombie efforts. It feels less like the latest effort from a groundbreaking horror filmmaker and more like just another imitation, even if this particular imitation also features loops of intestines spilling from abdominal cavities.
12. The Brothers Grimm ^ “The Brothers Grimm” is a mess; a formerly daring director’s attempt to cash in on big studio backing even after the rug has been pulled out from under him.
11. The Bad News Bears ^ “The Bad News Bears” feels like it followed the roadmap laid out by the 1976 version, but forgot to add all the heart and character…
