A toast to Skyy Vodka…it may seem a little strange to see the name of libation empire Skyy associated with film, but they’ve been huge supporters of the independent movie scene for several years now. Aside from sponsoring events like Slamdance and the San Francisco Film Festival, they’ve also helped host premieres for films like “Boys Don’t Cry” and “The Virgin Suicides”.
Skyy will launch their Short Film Awards festival with the help of the American Cinematheque — Hollywood’s first movie theatre. The four categories for all film entries are fiction, non-fiction, animation…and “cocktail moment,” wherein a drinks-related event must occur!
The American Cinematheque is in charge of submissions and judging, and a panel of industry notables has been selected to take the task on, including film critic Graham Fuller and Doug Liman, the director of “Go!” and the now-classic (and yes, pro-cocktail) “Swingers”. The top prize for each category is a bountiful $5,000, and other perks, like a full-page Variety ad for the four winners and an air date for the Sundance Channel, also sweeten the deal.
