SKYY PREMIERES NEW SHORTS

By Film Threat Staff | October 1, 2001

Continuing to capitalize on the success of SKYY Vodka’s SKYY Short Films Series, which commissions short films from talented directors with an independent spirit, SKYY Vodka premiered their two latest SKYY short films on www.SKYY.com: “Feather Pimento,” directed by Kevin Jordan (“Smiling Fish & Goat on Fire”), starring Brad Rowe (NBC’s “The 70’s,” “Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss”), and executive produced by Doug Liman (“Swingers,” “Go”) and “Layover” directed by Kandeyce Jorden, (“Undone”) and written and executive produced by David Veloz (“Permanent Midnight,” “Natural Born Killers”). Los Angeles based Independent Media Inc., the commercial production company of record, produced both films.
A noir “whodunit,” “Feather Pimento” features a gorgeous femme fatale being grilled by an ardent detective in search of her missing husband. When all the questions are asked and fingers are pointed, the only thing resolved is that nothing is, as it seems.
“Layover,” is a sexy and stylish short about a beautiful private investigator who is delivering evidence to a client. The people that she encounters fantasize about what she may or may not have to share.
“SKYY is a pioneer in blending art with product in the short film format and distributing this original, entertaining content to consumers via our website. We love supporting innovative, creative individuals who have a passion for filmmaking through our SKYY Cinema programs,” said Teresa Zepeda, SKYY Vodka’s Brand Director.
“Feather Pimento” and “Layover” are the fourth and fifth films respectively premiered by SKYY. SKYY premiered three short films previously: “Meeting Genevieve,” starring model/actress Claudia Schiffer and directed by Luis Mandoki (“Angel Eyes”), pitted fiancée vs. future-mother-in-law; “The Wedding,” directed by Oscar® nominee Agnieszka Holland (“The Third Miracle,” “Europa Europa”), captures one perfect moment of longing and thoughts of “what if?”; and “Shaken not Stirred,” directed by David Veloz, explores the life of a single guy trying to get a date.
Also last year, under its SKYY Cinema platform, SKYY Vodka, a long-time supporter of independent film, launched the SKYY Vodka Short Film Awards. Joey Pantoliano (“Sopranos,” “Memento”) hosted the star-studded event, which included the SKYY Spirits tribute, honoring Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Anniversary Party”) for her independent spirit. The panel of jurors included director Doug Liman (“Swingers,” “Go”); director Luis Mandoki (“Angel Eyes,” “Message in a Bottle”) and Graham Fuller (film writer-at-large for Interview Magazine).
