For the fifth year now, the Sundance Institute Composers Lab chooses six up and coming film composers to participate in workshops and creative exercises under the guidance of leading film composers and industry professionals. The six fellows have been chosen.
Billy White Acre – Named “Southern California Guitarist of the Year” by BAM Magazine/KLSX radio in 1989. Scored “The Process”, Cookers, “Love & Sex”, “Beyond the City Limits” and “Backyard Dogs”.
Will Calhoun – Drummer for rock band Living Colour. Currently working Mos Def as producer and performer.
Vincent Gillioz – Scored “Tupilak”, award winning film at the 2001 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Currently scoring his second indie “The Ghosts of Edendale”.
Sujin Nam – Served as assistant and orchestrator to Christopher Young, she worked on such films as Entrapment, Wonder Boys, and The Big Kahuna. She composed music for the documentary, “Shanghai Ghetto”, winner of the Santa Barabara Film Festival Audience Award.
Grant-Lee Phillips – Singer for Grant Lee Buffalo. Contributed music to Velvet Goldmine, “Six Feet Under”, “Friends”, “Roswell”, “Citizen Baines”, “Ed” and “Witchblade”.
Bradford Reed – Played with the latest incarnation of King Missile – King Missile III. Inventor of the pencilina, a ten-stringed collision of the hammer dulcimer, slide guitar, koto, and fretless bass. Currently working on the soundtrack for “The Robot’s Song”, an animated feature.
Between July 23-August 5 in Sundance, UT, these six participants will work under the mentorship of such film composers and industry professionals as George S. Clinton, Michael Kamen, Rolfe Kent, Thomas Newman, Trevor Rabin and Ulu Grosbard.
