I like dark black and white films, but I don’t like them so dark that you’re having a hard time seeing what’s going on.
Such is the case in “Rapid Eye Movement” where several shots are so dark, you feel like you’re wearing sunglasses at night like Corey Hart. This nine-minute film has a guy wandering around busy streets and subways in a dreamlike state while his voice-over narration describes what it’s like to have narcolepsy. Not very exciting, and seeing that the somnambulant action is often hard to make out, I believe that this film could very well induce narcolepsy in some viewers. I advise that if you watch this film, that you don’t drive a big-rig or operate a battle tank for a few hours afterwards. You have been warned.
