It’s been a long time coming, but now, after 27 years, Queen Kong is finally getting a British premiere. Due to legal action brought on by RKO and Dino De Laurentiis, producers of the 1933 and 1976 versions of “King Kong,” the “Queen” never was officially released. But this didn’t stop it from gaining a cult audience anyway. It played Italian cinemas briefly in 1977 and then was never seen again until it opened in Japan 24 years later.
Now, Queen Kong director Frank Agrama, has given Phoenix Arts in Leicester special permission to show the film on the big screen for one night only with members of the original cast and crew present.
Queen Kong received a U.S. DVD release earlier this year.
