PHONE SEX GRANDMA

By Felix Vasquez Jr. | February 3, 2006

I don’t know what to say about “Phone Sex Grandma”. Obviously, I have something to say or else this would be a shitty review, and my boss wouldn’t allow a sentence, but still, I was dumbfounded by this short only because it was so damn disturbing. What we see here is basically nine minutes of an older homely looking woman (Opal Dockery) sitting around performing sex calls for work to various callers while she goes about her chores. “Phone Sex Grandma” not only states the obvious–that these women on these sex hotlines are anything but what’s presented on the ad–but Truman is so intent on forcing irony down our throat, I was just cringing.

Okay, here’s a woman who is not good looking pretending to be other people, we get it, here’s a woman who is saying to strangers on the phone to do nasty things to her yet she has busts of Shakespeare we get it, here’s a woman who really is actually intelligent working in such a lewd profession, we get it. Here’s a woman talking about her vagina while reading “The Origin of Species” from Charles Darwin, we get it! We get it already; stop forcing this down our throat and try presenting the film in a comedic tone, or, perhaps, a watchable tone. Sure, it’s original, but “Phone Sex Grandma” falls short of anything resembling entertainment, and really doesn’t give us anything to laugh at.
