Philadelphia’s The Awesome Fest, running June 14-August 17, 2013, has announced its full events lineup, celebrating the 1980’s, which will include over 50 events, featuring 30 outdoor movies, special guests, anniversary screenings, an ‘80s style prom and popular musicians from the decade. From the official press release:
This summer, from June 14th through August 17th, The Awesome Fest is teaming up with presenting sponsor Parx Casino® and media sponsor Citypaper, to launch a 10 week citywide film & music festival celebrating the 1980’s. The Festival will include over 50 events, featuring 30 outdoor movies, special guests, anniversary screenings, an ‘80’s style prom, and popular musicians from the decade. In keeping with the festival tradition, the majority of the events and all outdoor screenings are presented free of charge.
“Since 2010 The Awesome Fest has worked tirelessly to ensure the majority of our outdoor events and screenings stay completely free to attend. Thanks to our presenting sponsor – Parx Casino®, and an overwhelming amount of community support, we are able to do so once again, this time nearly tripling the amount of events we produced last year. More movies, more music, more special guests, and way more Kenny Loggins than ever before. This is unequivocally our most awesome summer yet.” said Josh Goldbloom festival creator and director.
The opening night celebration kicks off Friday, June 14th with a live concert performance by The Psychedelic Furs at The Trocadero Theatre. Closing night, 8/17, will feature the 25th Anniversary of Killer Klowns From
Outer Space, with the filmmakers, The Chiodo Brothers, very first appearance in Philadelphia. Festival highlights to include the 25th Anniversary screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit with the voice of Roger Rabbit, Charles Fleischer, 8 Philadelphia Premieres, a special performance by Flock of Seagulls and a super secret concert on the Parkway! With over 50 awesome events happening at The Awesome Fest, there is truly something for everyone.
