PARK CITY MADNESS! Editor’s Note from Chris Gore: This year five members of the Film Threat crew made the trek to Park City, Utah for the insanity that is Sundance-Slamdance-NoDance-Slamdunk-SchmoozeDance-Digidance-Insertyourownfestivalnameandaddtheworddance-dance. Myself, senior editor Ron Wells, Austin bureau chief Merle Bertrand, Tim Sanger and Anthony Miele made the journey. Former Film Threat editor David E. Williams, currently editor of special issues at the Hollywood Reporter, crashed with us as well. Our plan was to cover more films at the festivals in Park City than any other outlet. Collectively we saw about over 80 Sundance Film Festival features, nearly all of the Slamdance and NoDance movies and had other writers covering the additional alt.fests in Park City. Yep, we had it covered. The only problem was that we forgot our camera. That’s when Kent Bye came to the rescue and was quickly deputized as Film Threat’s official photographer.
This photo diary is written by Kent Bye, a filmmaker and photographer, who saved our sorry a***s, so we owe him a debt of gratitude. His comments and own experiences can be seen in the captions accompanying this story. Kent didn’t see a lot of movies, or get laid, or get too drunk or get a movie deal, but he did remember a camera, which puts him way ahead of the Film Threat crew. Thanks Kent!
