The 2003 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films ended another successful record-setting year on Monday, September 22, 2003. More than 300 filmmakers from around the world attended this year’s festival, which was heavily populated with industry representatives in the business of buying and selling short films and scouting for new filmmaking talent. The seven-day fete held from September 16-22, 2003 screened more than 265 short films from the festival’s record-setting 2,000 submissions.
A total of 21 festival awards in 13 categories, five special jury prizes and three audience favorites were announced Sunday evening at an Awards Presentation held at the Riviera Resort in Palm Springs, CA. More than $14,000 in cash prizes and $7,500 in Kodak film stock were awarded at the presentation. Award winners receiving a first place prize are automatically eligible for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for an Academy Award nomination.
