“A Beautiful Mind” wins for Best Picture and takes home a total of four awards. “The Lord of the Rings” gets four And the it only took 4 hours and 20 minutes to hand out 24 awards in the most somber affair in Oscar history… Whoopi kept her cool amid the constant 9/11 reminders, but the highlight of the evening came very late when Halle Berry won for Best Actress and took the historic opportunity to thank her entire management team. Berry is the first Black actress to win in this category and she also made mention of all the great actresses who came before her. All the awards after that were pretty predictable.
