September 27th-29th has been set for the Orinda Film Festival in the East Bay town of Orinda, California. The festival will showcase the work of independent, professional, and student filmmakers and will include short, feature, and documentary films, along with animation and computer-generated material. Over 2,500 attendees are expected.
“A wide range of material will be presented- with 50 films grouped into 19 programs; 33 hours of programming in all ,” says executive director Randy Holleschau.
The festival kicks off Friday night at 6:00pm with an Opening Gala Reception at the Orinda Library Plaza. A host of filmmakers will be present to talk with guests and share their thoughts and experiences. Following the reception, the Academy Award-winning short documentary “Thoth” will open the festival. Many filmmakers will be on hand to introduce and discuss their films. Several special events will also be held; Faye Dunaway will be present Sunday morning to screen and discuss her film “Yellow Bird”, and Pixar Animation Studios will screen two shorts throughout the festival.
The main goal of the festival is to showcase the artistry of independent filmmakers, especially those from the Bay Area and Northern California, while at the same time promoting Orinda as an arts-friendly community. The festival is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible and opens its doors to everyone with an interest in film.
