The 7th Malibu International Film Festival returns to Malibu and Santa Monica April 7-10, 2006. The Malibu International Film Festival is a competition festival with a focus on premiering new film and talent seeking distribution and representation.

Opening Night Film

“RISING SON: THE LEGEND OF SKATEBOARDER CHRISTIAN HOSOI”

Screening: 7:30PM @ Aero Theatre

Party: 9:30PM @ The Victorian

Directed by Cesario “Block” Montano, RISING SON chronicles the life and career of Christian Hosoi, one that began as a young renegade super star athlete and resulted in a federal prison sentence for drug trafficking. World Premiere.

“PURVIS OF OVERTOWN” — Screening: 1:30PM @ Aero Theatre

After being in jail for a breaking and entering charge, Purvis Young seemed destined to fail. Yet while in prison, Purvis taught himself to paint. He is now a highly acclaimed contemporary artist – recognized nationally as an icon of Black culture and history. Purvis paints simply because that’s what he needs to do. Documentary. Q&A to follow. West Coast Premiere.

“THE OH IN OHIO” — Screening: 7:30PM @ Aero Theatre

Priscilla Chase seemed to have everything going for her with one small private exception: She never thought much of sex. When her husband unexpectedly leaves her to regain his manhood she embarks on a wild journey that leads her to satisfaction and love in the most unlikely place. Starring Parker Posey, Paul Rudd, Mischa Barton, Liza Minnelli & Danny DeVito. West Coast Premiere.

“THE HAMILTONS” — Screening: 9:30PM @ Aero Theatre

The Hamiltons seem to be the picture perfect American family. They are hardworking community members; giving to their local charities, attending Town Hall meetings, and always respectful to their neighbors… except for the fact that they usually end up killing them. Directed by the Butcher Brothers. Q&A to follow with them. Los Angeles Premiere.

“LIFE AFTER TOMORROW” — Screening: 1:30PM @ Aero Theatre

A new tomorrow for the play ‘Annie’, adored by millions…then orphaned by Broadway. A story about overcoming the hard knocks following the early success of the children who appeared in “Annie” on Broadway. Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker. Documentary. West Coast Premiere.

“PUPPY” — Screening: 5:30PM @ Aero Theatre

A resourceful young woman, a seriously delusion man, and two dead dogs. It’s a love story. Indie film at it’s best! Q&A to follow. West Coast Premiere.

“THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET” –

Screening: 5:30PM @ Jaguar Theatre

The World According to Sesame Street is a feature-length documentary, in cooperation with “Sesame Street,” that explores the drama and complexities behind producing international versions of the world’s most-watched children’s television program. “LITTLE FISH” — Screening: 7:30PM @ Aero Theatre

Tracey Heart’s past won’t let her go…so all she does is swim, work, and sleep. Directed by Rowan Woods and one of the most highly acclaimed and decorated Australian films ever. Starring: Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Sam Neil & Martin Henderson. West Coast Premiere.

Set against the harsh and unforgiving landscape of the 1880s Australian outback, The Proposition is a visually stunning tale of loyalty, revenge and the quest for justice in a lawless land. “ELECTRIC APRICOT: QUEST FOR FESTAROO” –

Screening: 9:30PM @ Aero Theatre

In the Spring of 2005 a young filmmaker set forth to make a documentary about something raw and original something genuine yet unpretentious. Who he discovered was Electric Apricot and what he achieved was enlightenment. A mocumentary directed by Primus lead-man Les Claypool. In person: Les Claypool for the Q&A. Los Angeles Premiere.

Indievest Awards Night Reception & Dinner Party

The 2006 Malibu International Film Festival will wrap up with an awards night dinner party under the stars. This night honors the award winning filmmakers of the 2006 Malibu International Film Festival. Actor Sir Anthony Hopkins will present an award for Achievement in the Arts to Festival Honoree: X-MEN: THE LAST STAND Director Brett Ratner
