The 2nd Annual Malibu Celebration of Film will return on September 26th – 30, 2007, to celebrate and showcase award-winning festival films, the “Best of the Best” from around the world for the Malibu community.
Sadly, however, the Eric Roberts martial arts actioner “Best of the Best” will not screen.
Says Kim Jackson, “Our film programming will consist of award-winning films from internationally known festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Toronto and Berlin. Within the Malibu community, we have the largest single group of academy voters, who have the opportunity to view these films on the big screen and meet the filmmakers.”
Approximately 40 award winning features, documentaries, shorts and animation will be screened during the Malibu Celebration of Film’s five-day event, with audiences estimated to be up to 1,000 per screening at diverse locations such as Malibu Hollywood Theatres, Malibu Bluffs Park, Malibu Pier, Calamigos Ranch and Pepperdine University.
For its inaugural year, in 2006, in his last public appearances, MCOF honored the late legendary Academy Award winning director Robert Altman with a screening of his film, “A Prairie Home Companion” at a star-studded opening night event. Festival concluded with a gala at which Altman received the Malibu Courage Award. Attendees included Lindsey Lohan, Virginia Madsen, Elliot Gould, Ray Liotta among others.
Once again, MCOF’s educational outreach program FILMS “COOL”, co-chaired by Academy Award nominated actors Ed Harris and Amy Madigan, will be included in the celebration. FILMS “COOL” is a high school and college awards screening and mentoring program, which will showcase short films in both high school and college divisions.
