IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD SCREENING

By Film Threat Staff | April 2, 2002

A rare big screen presentation of Stanley Kramer’s 1963 slapstick classic “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” will be held on Saturday, April 6, at the historic Loew’s Jersey, located in Jersey City, NJ (right across the river from Manhattan). The film begins at 7:30pm and admission is $5.00.
This presentation is the original three-hour roadshow version in a 35mm dye-transfer Technicolor print, complete with the overture, intermission music and exit music. For those who only know the film from the heavily edited pan-and-scan version that’s played on television, this is a rare opportunity to see the film as it was originally intended.
“It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” is a wild scramble by rival groups of travelers who, learning about treasure buried in pristine park, literally tear up the roads and the skies to find the treasure first. The cast is widely regarded as being the best for a comedy film: Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, Terry-Thomas and Jonathan Winters lead the chase, and dozens of stars ranging from the Three Stooges to Jerry Lewis pop up in unexpected cameo roles.
