The Hollywood Black Film Festival, which runs from [ January 31st ] to [ February 4th, 2001 ] in Culver City, has announced a special slate of non-competition feature films. Highlights of the program include:
[ The Caveman’s Valentine ] , written and directed by Kasi Lemmons ^ In this screen adaptation of George Dawes Green’s 1995 novel “The Caveman’s Valentine” Samuel L. Jackson plays Romulus Ledbetter, a Julliard-trained jazz musician-turned-schizophrenic homeless man who is drawn out of his insanity and his cave on the edge of Manhattan to solve a murder mystery.
[ Lockdown ] , directed by John Luessenhop ^ A competitive swimmer finds himself in a life-shattering ordeal as he and his friends are convicted of a crime they didn’t commit and wrongly imprisoned at a State Penitentiary.
[ Long Night’s Journey Into Day ] (Los Angeles Premiere), [ Chalk ] (Los Angeles Premiere), and [ Welcome to Death Row ] (World Premiere) will also screen in the HBFF 2001 Special Presentations Program.
