HOLLYWOOD AT COMIC CON

Once again, Hollywood will converge on the largest popular arts convention in the world. [ The 31st Comic-Con International ] will take place [ July 20-23, 2000 ] at San Diego California. Filling the entire San Diego Convention Center Comic-Con, as it is affectionately known, last year attracted 45,000 attendees.
Making a rare special appearance at this year’s event is the creator of the “X-Files” [ Chris Carter ]. Carter will discuss his new spin-off series “The Lone Gunman,” and answer fans’ questions about the exciting “X-Files” cliffhanger season finale and the future of agents Mulder and Scully. [ Kevin Smith ] director of such successful independent films as Chasing Amy, Clerks and Dogma will be on hand to discuss his projects and give an insight into his future endeavors. And [ Paul Verhoeven ] , director of such hits as Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct returns to Comic-Con to discuss his new project The Hollow Man, starring Kevin Bacon.
[ New Line Cinema ] will host a special panel discussion with behind the scenes information on several of their upcoming films; Lost Souls, starring Winona Rider and The Cell, which stars Jennifer Lopez and is directed by Tarsem, an award-winning commercial and music video veteran. Tarsem will be on hand to answer questions from the audience as will Mark Protosevich writer of the film. The studio will also offer a special sneak peak into the making of the J.R.R.Tolkien classic The Lord of the Rings.
The close proximity to Hollywood of the world’s largest popular art gathering makes unique visits by special guests an added attraction to the already-packed schedule of panels, seminars and workshops on all aspects of comics, film, television, animation and the popular arts. Comic-Con is also pleased to announce that two special preview screenings will take place during our event. The Klumps, starring Eddie Murphy and The Specials starring Rob Lowe, Jamie Kennedy and Thomas Haden Church.
Joining Comic-Con for a discussion of The Specials will be Kennedy, Church and other cast members as well as Craig Mazin, director of the film. One of the most successful animation companies is [ Warner Bros. Television Animation ] . Warner Bros. will be on hand to discuss their animated Batman project “Return of the Joker,” with guests Will Friedle and Mark Hamill as well as Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Glen Murakami and producer Bruce Helford (“Drew Carey,” and “The Norm Show.”)
