If Patie Ventre has her way, the Olympic games may never be the same. Ventre’s goal is to get Musical Canine Freestyle a/k/a dancing with dogs into the Olympics as a competitive event.
“Freestyle” profiles the WCFO (World Canine Freestyle Organization). Founded by Ventre, the WCFO was formed in the late ‘80s as an organization dedicated to the competitive sport of dancing with dogs. Dancing with dogs is when a contestant, usually an older woman, trains his or her dog to do a dance routine with their master. This routine is then judged by a panel of dog dancing experts.
The funniest thing about “Freestyle” is that it’s all true. Old women in gaudy costumes dancing with trained canines is a sight to behold. But what pushes this documentary over the top is Ventre’s passion, dedication and unwavering belief that someday very soon the whole world will get to experience dancing with dogs, as an Olympic competition.
