The Sixth Annual Valley Film Festival will once again take place at the historic El Portal Theatre, in the NoHo Arts District, September 13-17, 2006.
Opening night, the spotlight is on VFF Alumni: John Putch (Bachlorman – VFF03) returns with Mojave Phone Booth – a story of 4 disparate people whose lives intersect at a telephone booth in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Preceded by Eating Alone, the sophomore effort from Ron Moon, the 2005 audience award recipient for his “Made in the (818)” short, The Red Hot Interview.
Making their Los Angeles premieres are the documentaries, Christa McAuliffe: Reach for the Stars – about our nation’s first teacher in space; Chasing the Horizon – in which we get up close with the world’s most treacherous off road race: The Teacate SCORE Baja 1000; and the rockumentary on Dexter Romweber, Two Headed Cow, featuring appearances by Jack White, Cat Power & Neko Case.
Closing Night, The Valley Film Festival will be premiering The Still Life, a poignant drama about an artist, & reclusive alcoholic, Julian Lamont (Jason Barry) who creates a new art genre called Destructionism, and his works catapult him into the limelight. But, as his success in the art world grows, Julian loses touch with the artist he truly desires to be and his personal life soon tailspins out of control. Terry Moore, Rachel Miner and Don S. Davis co-star.
