As reported in November, in a report on Film Threat titled, MOXIE PROGRAM DIRECTOR RESIGNS, the Santa Monica Film Festival was seeking an organization to take over the responsibilities of the festival. Beginning January 1, 2002, Dallas’ Deep Ellum Film, Music, Art and Noise organization will take over the responsibilities of hosting the Santa Monica Film Festival and it’s year round events. DEFMAN currently presents the Deep Ellum Film Festival held each November in Dallas, Texas.
“Founder Albert DeQuay has built a film festival which truly supports independent filmmakers, and I look forward to continuing his mission of celebrating and showcasing undiscovered talent,” says the new Executive Director of both festivals, Michael Cain. “We are excited about combining these two unique festivals. The Deep Ellum Film Festival was originally modeled after the Santa Monica Film Festival and it seems a natural step to combine the creative teams,” says Cain.
DEFMAN’s mission is to promote independent film, and the arts and entertainment industry, while raising funds for cancer patients and their families. The charity works to help those suffering with cancer and their families to raise their quality of life by providing victim support through direct monetary aid.
The 6th Annual Santa Monica Film Festival will take place in late February with details to be announced the first week of January. Information concerning the 4th Annual Deep Ellum Film Festival will be announced in early spring.
