Made in Italy and originally released in 1976, “Caligula Reincarnated As Hitler” is a Nazi concentration camp exploitationer. This death camp is for the ladies, and ss Commandant Starker (Marc Loud) clearly digs his work. There is rape, torture and, needless to say, rampant bad taste. German soldiers who are allowed to rape the female prisoners are told “they must suffer.” So, there are women smeared with blood and kind of half-heartedly feigning agony.
Lise (Daniela Poggi) is the good-looking blonde prisoner of war who endures all manner of humiliating whoopin’s in the Nazi hellhole. Women are ripped apart by Doberman’s, covered with human feces, etc. Not exactly a Club-Med style existence.
As you may’ve guessed, the big wigs at the Death Camp are a pack of homicidal looneys. Ranting about Aryan superiority and getting all horned-up over the prospect of Germany ruling the world. They also chow down on the (apparently, damn tasty) flesh of some unlucky prisoners. Pass the A-1 sauce!
The film was originally released as “Last Orgy of the Third Reich”, which was misleading because there’s very little sex in it. However, the new title is even dumber, because Hitler doesn’t show up in the movie at all.
In terms of theme, “Caligula Reincarnated As Hitler” is as sick as they come, but–its other shortcomings aside–it’s surprisingly well-made. So, if you’re into campy ’70s shock cinema, this is a can’t miss flick.
