When I first head about the event the Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow and 2010 Fantastic Fest had concocted to celebrate the Fantastic Fest screening of Ryan Reynolds’s new film “Buried,” it freaked me out. Watching the movie, which I was fortunate enough to do at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, was one thing. Watching this movie while buried in a coffin, like Reynolds’s character in the film, is an entirely other level of insanity (suffering claustrophobia vicariously is much easier than suffering through it yourself). So, yeah, of course Tim League and crew were the ones to push that envelope. According to the official press release:
Four participants were selected to be sealed and buried in custom built coffins to watch the entire film. After signing waivers, the participants were blindfolded and had burlap sacks placed over their heads. They were driven in silence to a location 30 minutes outside of Austin. Only after they had been placed inside their coffins were they allowed to remove the blindfolds. Inside the custom-built coffins they watched BURIED on LCD monitors fixed to the coffin lid. Each of them made it through (relatively) unscathed and will get to meet Ryan Reynolds at the gala event for surviving the experience.
Would you have buried yourself in a coffin to meet Ryan Reynolds? If so, shame you missed your chance. If you’re going to Fantastic Fest this week, however, you can still see the film with Ryan Reynolds in attendance at the gala screening on Thursday, September, 23, 2010.
