“Bully,” director Larry Clark’s movie which was scheduled to open the 3rd annual The Method Fest independent film festival Friday night at Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena, was pulled out of the festival by Lions Gate Films, leaving the festival organizers without an opening night film as of Wednesday afternoon.
Representatives of Lions Gate Films indicated that director Clark signed documents certifying that the movie is not ready for screening. “Bully,” a true tale of a suburban Florida teen whose friends and victims conspire to kill him, had been submitted to The Method Fest for its world premiere, with an announced U.S. theatrical release for July 13.
“We are terribly disappointed by this turn of events,” said Method Fest Executive Director Don Franken. “There isn’t much you can do when you lose your Opening Night Film two days before the start of the festival. We accepted the movie in good faith, and no farther than last Friday, Lions Gate Films representatives were asking for directions on where to ship the movie for the festival.”
Festival programmers are currently seeking a replacement film, but have yet to find a suitable replacement.
