The Trenton Film Society has announced that it will be holding the First Trenton Film Festival from May 7-9, 2004 in Trenton, NJ. Festival venues will include the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton Marriott and Mill Hill Playhouse. Genres include: Narrative Features and Shorts, Foreign Features and Shorts, Documentary Features and Shorts, Animation Shorts and Experimental/Avant Garde Shorts. This is the first film festival to be held in the Greater Trenton area. Festival Director Kevin Williams said, “Audiences will see some great films that they may never get another chance to see. Plus, they can meet some very talented filmmakers and other film-buffs. It should be a very fun, cinematic weekend in the state capital. As always, our goal is to Bring Audiences and Filmmakers Together.”
The Trenton Film Festival has received over two hundred film submissions from around the world. California, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were among the most represented states, while foreign films were submitted from the United Kingdom, Canada, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy and Palestine. “We are very happy with the quality of submitted films so far and expect some tough decisions for the festival juries. The response has been amazing and this bodes very well for our first film festival,” said Williams.
The full slate of films to be shown at the Trenton Film Festival will be announced in early April. There will be a special Kick-Off/Opening Night Party and Screening at the Mill Hill Playhouse on Friday, May 7 from 6 PM to 10 PM. On Sunday, May 9, the Trenton Film Festival will begin to wind down with its Filmmaker Awards Ceremony followed by the Closing Film screening with Filmmaker Q&A at 7 PM.
Seminars will also be conducted at the Trenton Film Festival. On Saturday, May 8, New York City’s Gotham Writer’s Workshop will conduct a Screenwriting Seminar at the Trenton Marriott Hotel. It will be followed by a second seminar, sponsored by the Writer’s Guide of America (WGA) called, “The Business Side of Screenwriting.” A Film Criticism Seminar will be held at the New Jersey State Museum Auditorium on Sunday, May 9 at 2 PM. Audiences will get to hear from some of their favorite local and regional film critics discuss movies, learn how film criticism is written and what goes into giving a film a good or bad review. There will be an audience Q&A with the panel of film critics.
