Yeah, not kidding on this one. The 9th Annual Tribeca Film Festival is going to rock out its opening night with the final flick in the Shrek franchise. Before you get too down on the festival for this family-friendly programming choice, at least this isn’t without precedent (the Olsen Twins screened “New York Minute” at the Tribeca Fest back in 2004). According to Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, “We have always sought to open our Festival with films that are captivating and strike an emotional chord with movie-goers. ‘Shrek Forever After’ combines the very best in storytelling and artistry while showcasing the wonders of innovative 3D filmmaking. It is one of the most anticipated new movies of 2010 and we are so pleased that DreamWorks Animation is bringing the final chapter of Shrek to the Tribeca Film Festival for its world premiere.”
Personally, I dig the Shrek flicks. Would I go see one as the opening night to a major film festival? No. But that’s me…
