Awards Weekend is over! Whether it be an indie cred-boosting Spirit Award, a career tanking Razzie or a stiff, golden, bald man named Oscar, and the winners all have their shiny prizes and it’s time to take one last look back at all the events:
2008 INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS
I railed against Film Independent last year in my Spirit Awards wrap-up, so I’m not about to do the same thing here. Besides, blogger Anthony Kaufman made the best point this year by pointing out that the films that won the Spirit Awards were the highest grossing of the “indie” films out there, based on the fact that those that vote for the Spirit Awards are the public that can buy membership into Film Independent and, therefore, are more likely to vote for the films they’ve seen which, more often then not, are the box office winners too. It’s all about exposure dictating award merit for the Spirit Awards and, again, I’m not going to re-hash my points from last year (which still stand) other than to simply state that there were no alarms and no surprises here.

28TH ANNUAL RAZZIE AWARDS
The Razzies love Lindsay Lohan! “I Know Who Killed Me” took home the most awards, surprising those of us who were convinced “Norbit” would pick up the lion’s share. Technically, all the films listed as nominees sucked horrendously, so anyone taking home the “award” was going to be more than deserving so, eh, who cares who wins? It’s a dishonor just to be nominated…
