I’ll say this about the growing number of artificial intelligence (AI) films we receive at the Film Threat offices. I’m fascinated by the ever-increasing quality of what AI can render and the innovative ways filmmakers use it to tell a cohesive story. Let’s just say we’re not there yet, but prospects are… fascinating. Such is VACAY, a 12-minute, dialogue-free AI short credited to SPECK REJK TRUMP that moves entirely through quick-cut imagery and music rather than traditional scenes.

Again, dialogue-free, the film opens with a very busty TV news anchor delivering news about the world. From there, we cut to people studying what appear to be ancient artifacts and documents. Groups gather around the world in study rooms, Asian food courts, and comic book conventions. Suddenly, a large group of incredibly busty women in tight tees decides to travel to South America to discover the ancient runes described in their studies. With excitement in the air, the busty blondes decide to shoot what I think is a calendar or modeling video. Anyway, what should be a joyous occasion quickly turns into something sinister.

Anyway, you had me at curvy, blond researchers with big boobs and skin-tight T-shirts, and VACAY is still in its experimental phase. SPECK REJK TRUMP uses AI almost as a lookbook or a storyboard. What’s presented is a series of AI-generated videos strung together to form a narrative.

Here, the story takes us down an Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure with busty babes, and things go wrong, only to bring us full circle back to our triple-D news anchor. But VACAY does succumb to AI limitations and to its lower-tier subscription plans. VACAY’s AI characters struggle to maintain their appearance from start to finish. They evolve over time, and some characters end up with mutant arms… if they have arms at all. But what I do like are the visuals SPECK REJK TRUMP designed, particularly when the story gets dark… and the boobs.

Again, we’re not there yet, but SPECK REJK TRUMP mapped out a smart blueprint in VACAY for building a single cohesive narrative. Can’t wait to see the next one.
