You will be blown away by everything that comes out of the wacky indie horror-comedy The Space Rodent, directed by Jason D. Morris. The nutty screenplay, written by Robert J. Carrera based on a story by Morris, starts off in space on an infested asteroid, where a giant space rat, Lord Ganack, informs his space rodent underling of his invasion plans, which includes a sodomy reference.

We then come down to Earth on Halloween someplace in Illinois, where Skylar (Shelby Broadnax) and Amanda (Leah Bernard) are getting ready for a girls’ night out at a costume party. Their boyfriends, Dean (David L. Minard) and Mac (Robert J. Carrera), are going to stay home and sit on their nuts, re-watching alien mysteries revealed shows on antique DVDs. After the girls leave, there is a phenomenon where an invisible rain is felt from a clear sky, which is weird.

“…a giant space rat, Lord Ganack, informs his space rodent underling of his invasion plans…”

Dean and Mac hang up a sign to discourage trick-or-treaters, but they get hassled anyway by a teen dressed as The Crow (Ty Pennington). Told to f**k off, the teen goes to the side of the house to spray paint dicks while the guys go back inside. Meanwhile, on a long drive in the country to the party, a bizarre occurrence causes Skylar’s car to crash. Soon, the girls are surrounded by space rats.

Back at the house, the boys go out to investigate noises in the garage. They find the teen being disemboweled by a space rat.

In life, it is important to take time to stop and smell the space rats. Part of the reason I only write for Film Threat is because I get to be first in line for the mutant rat movies. My editor knows I love them and gets them to me raw. The lower the budget, the better. Of course, all that is pointy teeth and tails do not glitter, as I have become discerning. A mutant rat movie has to have spunk, lotsa indie spunk, in order to impress me.
