TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2021 REVIEW! Award-winning and celebrated filmmaker Jessica Sanders presents her latest short, The Cocktail Party, which is a gift for anyone who has ever worked in catering as a server or, for that matter, in the hospitality service industry. It strikes and kicks with purpose, style, and humor. As a martial arts action film with kitten-heeled white bunny slippers included, Sanders evokes the fight, vibe, and marvel of Akira Kurosawa and Jackie Chan but with a sense of grace and tenacity.
“…a gift for anyone who has ever worked in catering…”
Besides its ode to those who deal with attitude and flippant, self-important people lacking in humanity, Sanders packs a four-minute film with pointed editing, personality, and knock-out moves from the film’s lead, Charlotte Taschen and Olympic rhythmic gymnast Eugenia Yuan. With eye-candy grabbing sets, wonderful score, and on-point direction by Sanders, The Cocktail Party continues its creativity and panache through its credits until the screen goes dark. It’s a real short film with a beginning, middle, and end, providing a mental break and visceral prescription with a conscious authenticity along with some kicks and jabs.
The Cocktail Party premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
