A defense attorney risks his profession and personal life for the sake of justice in Ricky Burchell’s crime thriller, The 6th. High-profile defense attorney Marcus Cole (Ricky Burchell) is fresh off a major courtroom victory. He is the talk of the town and is using this goodwill to inspire the city’s youth to make a difference in the world. In his personal life, Marcus is involved in a hot and steamy affair with city attorney Layla Gray (Hannah Brake), who is prosecuting a case against a corrupt officer, Frank Galloway (Chad Paetznick), accused of stealing money and drugs from the police evidence locker.
Later, Marcus is approached by music producer Felon X (Lil’ Flip), who wants him to defend the city’s rare good cop, Frank Galloway, who claims he’s being framed after discovering missing money and drugs when he warned his superiors. Marcus takes the case because he believes in Galloway’s innocence and knows that his relationship with Layla is about to get complicated.
As Marcus begins his investigation, he uncovers signs of a much larger and more dangerous conspiracy within the police department. His pursuit of the truth puts him on a collision course, not just with corrupt officers but with shadowy figures determined to protect their interests. Layla warns Marcus that going down this path will cost him more than he realizes, and the threat becomes personal when she’s blackmailed with a secretly recorded video of her and Marcus—an affair that also exposes her infidelity.

“The threat becomes personal when she’s blackmailed…”
As a crime thriller, The 6th follows a basic storyline at the start with police corruption and cover-ups. It all gets so complicated with twists and turns committed not just by the cops but also Marcus’ industrious team, including his enforcer Nathan (Marcus Lucas II), who is always there to protect his boss, but also by the sassy girl in the chair, Rani (Kennedy Mullins).
The 6th is a breath of fresh air and a return to the way crime thrillers were made not so long ago—the virtuous attorney seeking justice in an unjust and often corrupt system. Better yet, The 6th adds some 90s signature sexiness and lovemaking that has been missing from our crime thrillers for a very long time. The fun is hot, sticky, and gritty.
The 6th is a throwback to when thrillers had grit, grind, and a little grindin’. It’s sexy, sharp, and doesn’t waste time getting messy in the name of justice. If you miss the crime dramas where the lawyer trades in courtroom wins for street-level truths, The 6th delivers like it’s packing a smoking gun in one hand and blackmail in the other.
