Disney’s Snow White

The acting in Disney’s Snow White is a bit over-the-top. Gadot is charismatic, but she’s chewing the scenery most of the time. Zegler is fine with the material she’s been given, but she’s given way too many opportunities that she’s a good and compassionate ruler. Every time she speaks to a lowly peasant, these moments become increasingly eye-rolling.

Now, let’s talk about the dwarves. They are creepy as hell as these weird-looking human-esque characters. Here’s the thing. Everything the dwarves do in the film could have been done by actual human beings, actual little people. So why make them these CGI monstrosities?

“Everything the dwarves do in the film could have been done by actual human beings…”

Lastly, can’t we have love stories in Disney films anymore? Disney’s Snow White takes a hard 180 when concerning “One Day My Prince Will Come.” There are sparks between Snow White and Jonathan for the sole purpose of awakening the princess from her spell and (spoiler alert) then nothing. Webb and co. chose a girl to become a strong leader at the expense of falling in love. Why is romance now forbidden in children’s movies? Let’s be clear: Snow White and Jonathan will never live happily ever after.

In the end, this is for young children. I say this because there are cute and cuddly animals in every single frame of this movie. The film opens with a cute animal, and the last frame ends with a cute animal. As I suffered through the inane dialogue, bland music, and insufferable acting, damn, those animals are cute.

Disney’s Snow White exists solely to improve and correct Walt Disney’s original animated feature. You know—the first animated feature ever! That said, the actual crime here is that the movie as a story is not good. Every modification fails to improve the tale, and the whimsy and wonder of fairy tales are missing. It does not honor the original but shuns it instead.
