Andrew Lucido’s short film Sky is a contemplative tale of adventure, wonder, and creativity. Ten-year-old Jake (Magnus Newville) lives in a New York City apartment with his working parents. Today is another day when Jake finds himself alone at home while his parents are at work. As Jake begins to draw, the quiet and isolation tug at him to go on an adventure.
Soon, Jake packs up a backpack and steps foot into a bigger world. The adventure begins with a subway trip, then to the bustling New York streets lined with tall skyscrapers and graffiti art. Eventually, Jake makes with way to his final destination, Central Park.

Sky aims to evoke feelings of freedom and creativity in all of us. Lucido’s story is told with few words, while Magnus Newville’s facial expressions and body language effortlessly convey this sense of adventure to the audience.
Those of us who live in cities understand the restlessness that comes with being cooped up in a home or apartment. Sky captures that part of us that needs to step outside and experience everything the world—particularly nature—has to offer. Sky is a hopeful tale of what once was and could be again.
