Short films say a lot with very little. On July 4, 2017, before the events in Charlottesville, NC, filmmakers Will Osigian and Ryan Hand used only 4 minutes and 47 seconds to tell the story of two best friends on opposite sides of the Civil War in Sides.
The scene is simple. A stream separates White Confederate soldier, Charles (Jeff Alexander) and Black Union soldier, Jim (Drez Ryan). Each makes a simple statement about the war between state’s rights and one’s freedom. While there is nothing artistically earth-shattering or bizarre about the story, an event occurs, in the end, bringing both “sides” together.
“…the event that brings the two sides together will have you thinking.”
Is Sides worth spending the next 4 minutes and 47 seconds of your life? Yes, do it now. Click the link below. It’s really not a lot of time, and its ending will give you a moment to pause and think.
Sides (2017) Directed by Will Osigian. Starring Drez Ryan and Jeff Alexander.

Hi Alan — Thanks for the kind words. I was a producer on the short film, and we are all very proud of it. Glad you enjoyed the watch!
