In Pickle Vision, directed by Shawn Welles Linzey, an old man sits alone in a dark room watching television. After hearing a sultry voice beckon him to “Like me,” he drifts into a strange and surreal journey, eventually finding himself inside a supermarket buying a jar of pickles, accompanied by a driving rock song declaring that “Life is Pickle Vision.”
After finishing off the jar of pickles, the old man is lured into the temptation of the mysterious “Pickle Witch, a figure who entices him into joining her at a nightclub. Though he is seduced by her presence at first, he eventually realizes he cannot surrender to her power any longer.
“…the old man is lured into the temptation of the mysterious ‘Pickle Witch’…”
According to director Shawn Welles Linzey, he made Pickle Vision as a way to break free from conventional Hollywood storytelling and create something wholly unpredictable. Produced on a $1,000 budget, the film embraces surreal imagery, music, and sound design to immerse audiences in a bizarre yet playful world.
Pickle Vision fits squarely into the WTF category of Film Threat reviews. The best way to watch it is to simply sit back, take in its surreal story, and go along with its kickin’ rock soundtrack. Oh, and avoid the Pickle Witch.
