Joe Anderson and Nadine Vincent’s Meet Evelyn, My Sleep Paralysis Demon, is a perfect little exercise in the difference between “tension” scares and “jump” scares. The build-up is crucial, and the payoff is surprising.

Vincent plays Jennifer, a woman trapped in a state where she appears awake yet still dreaming. The shadows and darkness of her bedroom combine, adding to the growing sense of dread at the coming of Evelyn, Jennifer’s sleep paralysis demon.

Only problem is Jennifer is struggling to actually snap out of the oppressive dream-state she appears trapped in. We hear her inner monologue, almost trying in vain to kick-start her body into action. For through the dark comes a sound, and from that sound a presence, and behind that presence a form.

Jennifer sleeps unaware as looming darkness prepares to invade her dreams in Meet Evelyn, My Sleep Paralysis Demon.

“…trapped in a state where she appears awake yet still dreaming.”

Suddenly, the monstrous growling ceases, as Jennifer’s husband rolls over and thus cuts off his symphony of snoring, which may or may not have been the impending and approaching demon.

With a polished look, score, and effects, Meet Evelyn, My Sleep Paralysis Demon is a tight little thriller that delivers genuine chills as Jennifer fights to regain control of her consciousness before Evelyn can dominate her, with demonic deeds and delights sure to invoke terrifying conclusions.
