“…an animated music video set during the Battle of Kohima of World War II in Northeast India.”
The four and half minute short is visually striking and heartbreaking. The filmmakers’ use of browns representing dirt, smoke, and dust of the battle, and dark reds representing the blood of the fallen is impressive and visually engaging. Bhargava and Rahal use several limited animation techniques beautifully while maintaining a cohesive visual style throughout. The animation feels simple in its presentation but complex in its final execution — it effectively uses all the effects tools that Adobe offers.
The song, Kohima, composed and performed by Bhargava, is a fantastic rock power ballad about a soldier lost in himself on the battlefield. He must learn how to unleash his primal cry for survival. Kohima is a powerful piece of animation.
