HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL 2025 REVIEW! Hypothetically, The End is directed, co-written, and produced by Lily Drummond. Co-writer Nat Luna stars as Monique, a young lady at a small New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 1999. She and her friend Scott (Toby Spiby) start talking about the possibility of Y2K ending life as they know it, based on a quip from Monique’s sister. This sends them spiraling, and the two decide to do the most impulsive and rash thing they can: get married. But there are only five minutes until midnight hits. Even with the help of Dawn (Ren Williams), is it possible to put together a wedding in the length of a commercial break?
“…the possibility of Y2K ending life as they know it…”
Hypothetically, The End is hilarious from start to finish. Every joke lands, even more so because the characters seem to believe Y2K will end everything. The script gives out just enough details to make Monique and Scott likable without dumping out extraneous exposition. Luna and Spiby are excellent and play off each other naturally. Williams is hilarious, especially once Elvis enters the fray.
Drummond has crafted a tight, slightly thrilling, highly entertaining short. The jokes are hilarious and the cast is great. The ending of Hypothetically, The End is the perfect button to conclude everything on.
