I hope you packed some extra dungarees as you will split your pants during How We Met, written by Leigh Cesiro and directed by Roe Moore. The hilarious short follows Claire (Alex Otis) and Brian (Dushaun Thompson) as they prepare for their upcoming wedding. Their wedding website has a spot to display the story of how they met for their guests to read. Staring dreamily at each other, they remember back to that magical night.
It was a party, and Claire was set up on a blind date by a friend. Suddenly, there is a flash, and out of the mists enters this really hot guy (Zach Dulin). Following behind him is Brian, who is coughing from the smoke-filled entryway. While the happy couple reminisces with a rose-colored rear view, the audience sees the mishaps that really transpired.

Even though I love comedy to the bone, I am not much of a laugher. If something is really devastating funny, I may allow a wry smile in the darkness. It is just a side effect of so many times around the giggle block that you can appreciate great humor without the involuntary reaction. I mention this because How We Met made me bust out laughing three times in only 5 minutes. It sneaks up behind you and squeezes the laughs out of your lungs like a giant, funny squid. Cesiro’s juxtaposition of fantasy and reality is both jarring and relatable, with some surprising developments.
Moore’s production look is a candy land of colors and cool lighting. Otis and Thompson both have some excellent comic timing, while the snappy editing makes the delivery even snappier. And Dulin is really good at being a hot guy, as his torso tamales are extra spicy. This short stands tall and is more than worth your time. You will be glad you met How We Met.
