Enneagram in Movement – “The Achiever”

DANCES WITH FILMS NEW YORK 2026 REVIEW! Writer-director Lauren Reins’s Enneagram in Movement is the pilot for a docuseries that follows artists who fit into one of the nine core types of the Enneagram personality system. Each type is based on what drives you as a person: your motivations, fears, and go-to habits.

In The Achiever, we follow a Type 3 personality known as “The Achiever.” People who fall under this personality category are driven by accomplishment and thrive on presenting the best public image through achieving personal goals, mastering skills, and being recognized for it. “The Achiever” is rattled by the fear of failure and feelings of worthlessness. It’s the classic workaholic type. New York dancer Haley Davis is the perfect example of this. Every day she runs between dance class and auditions. In the afternoon she self-tapes, then teaches in the evening. On the outside, Davis looks composed; inside, she harbors self-doubt. This lifestyle works for her until an injury threatens her entire routine and future. Now, the important question is: what does The Achiever do when their entire self-image and sense of value are called into question?

“…what does The Achiever do when their entire self-image and sense of value are called into question?”

As an educational piece, Enneagram in Movement is as good as it gets. Reins clearly states what she is trying to teach us, the audience. She lays out the narrative and message in an easy-to-understand, relatable way, then presents its perfect subject: Haley Davis. As an achiever myself, I saw myself in Davis, even though I’m not the biggest fan of dance.

The biggest triumph of Enneagram in Movement is using the system to help Davis find herself as her world and future seem to be crashing around her. Best of all, it reminds us that she, and we, are not alone in navigating this complicated journey called life. Ultimately, these personality systems are about discovering ways to become a better, more grounded person.
