Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse

But even with Officer Joe (Kevin Sorbo) and super celebrity Landeaux (Nelo Butler) tagging along, will this scrappy bunch have enough pepper to survive a world ending in all different ways at once? Weingart knows wacky and dives deep into fun time right away, keeping us there for the entire runtime. Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse is so fun, it has Nintendo-like 8-bit opening credits as well as video game interludes between major events.

Weingart made a smart move by going with every apocalypse scenario at once, making an armageddon smorgasbord that pairs well with both wine and weed. Like any good food fusion, the combination of seemingly juxtaposed doomsdays melds into a delicious disaster parfait. And Weingart wisely builds his world’s height throughout the running time, cranking up the adventure level with each act. I really dug the Lava Land.

Weingart would do an amazing job with that long-awaited Candyland board game adaptation, as he already has the gumdrop forest vibe caught perfectly with a tiny budget. There is also a built-in safeguard for any detraction the budget special effects may cause, with an avowed love for cheese. There is a passionate defense of cheese in this movie, as Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse is cheese on purpose. But cheese is delicious, and so is this picture.

Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse works best as a sci-fi adventure that is appropriate for the entire family.”

Also, the foodie portions of the script ring true, with a lot of genuine flavor knowledge on display to back up the brilliant concept of a food show at the end of the planet. Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse works best as a sci-fi adventure that is appropriate for the entire family. To classify it as a comedy is to miss the real punch the film throws. A lot of films can be funny, but few can be really fun. Weingart has a very funny joke about a sexy spider, but most of the humor exists in that ’80s zone of low-wattage punchlines with a high-voltage attitude. Like the most fun movies of the 80s, this film knows how to party, and so do the performances. Jack nails the classic dreamer so well that it hurts, with his frantic zeal being infectious. Hall shows why he earned the nickname Hurricane; he is an action natural.

The special guest stars kick it hard as well. Sorbo is excellent and can still wildly entertain in anything that he is in. It was a lot of fun to see the great Emilio Rivera as Murray, the head of the Marauders of Lava Land. Rivera’s casting gives a surprise bounce at the perfect time, creating a momentum that keeps building through the climax. Natasha Leggero is a world beater in her turn as Sweet Melissa, igniting a period of the picture that is just flat out crazy.

Weingart gives himself a creator credit instead of the usual written and directed by, indicating the possibility of this being a springboard for a TV series. That is a great idea, as I could spend several more nights in New Missoula for more sci-fi fun and recipes. Cuisine De La ‘Pocalypse is a great concept and a zany good time for the future served on a burning platter.
