Now you may wonder why I would give a Blaxploitation/Martial Arts flick from the 70s 3 ½ stars. But man, this has to be one of the best movies I have seen in awhile. The big book of martial arts clichés was cracked open big time for this one, and the results (although unintentional) are hilarious.
Bad dubbing, silly plot, and horrible acting somehow add up to a very funny movie with an occasional action break. The plot basically has ex-CIA agent Lucas (Jim Kelly) kicking his soul brother self through Hong Kong looking for a diamond that has recently been stolen by a local street gang. That’s right, the guy that was killed in the first couple of minutes of “Enter The Dragon” is back……..with a vengeance!
Now you may ask, “Why watch this movie?” or “Can a movie be that good unintentionally?” or “Is there a lot of needless nudity?”. Well the answers are, “Because it’s more entertaining than most stuff that Hollywood puts out these days (Cough::”Gigli”::Cough)” , “Yes, and then some”, “And finally, yes, oh sweet lord yes.”
All in all, I had a lot of fun watching this movie. Sure it was a corny 70s martial arts flick, but man it provided bigger laughs than some spoofs of the genre could give. Some fight scenes are very well choreographed, while others are just as laughable as the dialogue. I highly suggest checking it out. It is now available on DVD with your standard features, commentary, trailers and so forth. If you have a sense of humor and like the genre, then you’ll love this movie…and the excessive nudity of course.
