Writer-director Christopher Kelly’s short film Bishop’s Day follows two college students (Jessica Farmer and Joey Midlash) who break into an abandoned building late at night looking for excitement…boy/girl excitement, if you know what I mean. The woman leads the way, using a little playful seduction, daring him to pick the door’s lock. Once inside, he realizes they’ve entered Bishop’s Barbershop. Years ago, the beloved barber Clifford Bishop (Clay Chamberlin) was murdered for an unknown reason, and his son vanished soon after. Locals believe the building is haunted by the spirit of the former barber, and our couple has reached peak horniness.

Finding a sofa in another room, their flirtation turns to fear when they hear a strange sound—the screeching scrape of a blade being sharpened. The young man finds a room filled with old barbering tools as the woman grows uneasy, sensing someone watching them. As the man plays around with the tools, a mysterious figure emerges holding a straight razor. Let’s just say things don’t turn out so well for our hero.
Bishop’s Day is a creepy indie horror short film that tells the story of a ghostly killer. Done on a micro-budget, our tale opens like a chilling B-movie. All our protagonists want is to get it on. Kelly gets us all hot and heavy before our sweaty coeds get what’s coming to them—barbershop style. Kelly does everything he needs to create a backwoods legend. Sweet, to the point, and very inexpensive.
