Kodak, well-known for specializing in film, is stepping into the digital business. Digital theater business that is. Kodak has signed a deal with National CineMedia, the digital cinema joint venture of major theaters AMC, Cinemark and Regal, to develop a software to handle all aspects of digital theatrical operation, covering pre-show advertising, trailers, movie presentation and ticket sales. Currently theaters looking to go digital have had to adapt to whatever software comes with the projector or presentation system they’ve selected. This move will bring a standard to digital presentation and implementation in theaters while also setting up Kodak for a major piece of the action in over 13,000 movie theaters.
