Fast-forward to 2024, tasked with the Herculean challenge of curating the top 8 films available on Paramount+, our team at EW has meticulously assembled a selection that captures the platform’s best offerings. We invite you to accompany us on this cinematic exploration.
Best Movies on Paramount Plus
Is there anything good to watch on Paramount plus? Definitely, and now you will learn about these masterpieces.
1. Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
“Inside Llewyn Davis,” helmed by the illustrious Coen brothers, diverges from the typical musician-centric film narrative that often glorifies the ascent from obscurity to stardom. It’s like giving a silent nod of respect to all those folks whose dedication flies under the radar, never making it onto the big shiny billboards. With an electrifying portrayal that hits all right notes, Ocar Isaacs lives up to being Folk Musician – dealing with music & misadventures during turbulent Sixites’ NYC era! Despite his music not taking off as hoped, he doesn’t let up on the gas—his drive is unwavering amidst a stormy personal life.

2. This Month’s Editor’s Pick (2014)
Could Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film be his most polarizing yet? Take a look and determine where you stand in the ongoing conversation. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a standout performance as Larry “Doc” Sportello in the cinematic rendition of Thomas Pynchon’s acclaimed 2009 novel. Set in 1970, Doc is a private eye drawn into the shadowy depths of LA’s crime scene. But don’t be misled – this isn’t your typical thriller or noir. It’s a uniquely captivating experience.
3. Arrival (2016)
Renowned French filmmaker’s pinnacle work is the cinematic version of Ted Chiang’s “Story of Your Life,” a story framed around an extraterrestrial incursion that profoundly focuses more on terrestrial lives than the cosmic guests. Amy Adams, in a standout role of her illustrious career, portrays a linguist charged with the pivotal task of establishing communication with the alien beings.
4. Devotion (2022)
The tale of a groundbreaking historical figure in the Navy, Jesse Brown, the first African American naval aviator, unfolds in the remarkable drama overshadowed by the blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ Starring the talented Jonathan Majors as Jesse Brown, alongside ‘Maverick’ actor Glen Powell portraying his wingman and comrade Tom Hudner, the film offers captivating performances by both actors. This underrated gem, firmly rooted in a true story, now awaits a broader audience as it takes flight in the comfort of your home.
5. It Follows (2015)
David Robert Mitchell’s brilliant thriller is largely credited with kickstarting the so-called “elevated horror” genre, despite the term’s unfortunate naming. The movie is incredibly haunting, leaving its audience with unforgettable imagery and suspenseful moments. The lead, played by Maika Monroe, is Jay, a teenager who ends up with a ‘sexually transmitted demon’ following a casual romantic encounter, leading her into a nightmarish pursuit by eerie apparitions whose existence remains ambiguous.
6. Finding Yingying (2020)
Directed and produced by Jiayan Shi, the poignant documentary covering the tragic loss of Yingying Zhang in 2017 is a profound visual narration. It’s clear how much Yingying means to Shi, which gives this documentary an authentic insider view on cracking open her case alongside coping with immense grief afterwards. Big shoutout to Paramount+! If so, you can also go to another region and check out the library. If necessary, you can check here VPN as a browser extension. The authors of the film really know how to pick out the special stories that sometimes get missed by the big guys in streaming.
7. Interstellar (2014)
Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker in a league of his own, leveraging his superhero blockbuster achievements to secure massive budgets for his most ambitious cinematic visions. Picture this – Matthew McConaughey zooms through galaxies in “Interstellar,” embarking on more than just a trip; he’s after our future safe spot out there in the cosmos. Discussions on the depth of emotion in Nolan’s cinema keep his fan base buzzing—some question it; others defend their adoration vigorously.
8. Mafia Mamma (2023)
In the unexpected blend of action and humor that characterizes Catherine Hardwicke’s latest film, we see the astonishing transformation of Toni Collette from a mundane housewife into the fierce leader of a vast criminal empire during a somber trip to Italy for her grandfather’s funeral. The movie “Mafia Mamma” dances between humor and suspense so smoothly, it’s clear this flick didn’t come to play—it came to slay. Watching Collette in this role is like seeing perfection in motion; she nails the movie’s upbeat tempo without missing a beat.
Conclusion
Are there any good movies on Paramount? I think the report is clear, because at a minimum, these 8 films are worthy of attention. You can also go to the most popular movies tab and see what is Paramount plus most watched? At a minimum, you will find 3-5 films for the coming week.
Christopher Nolan films are so hit-or-miss for me. “Interstellar” was a miss. It began promisingly, and the wormhole sequence was a thing of pure wonder and awe. But the film for me got increasingly ridiculous, with inexplicable tidal waves and floating icebergs. And when Anne Hathaway started getting all weepy about how “love transcends time and space,” I thought my eyes were going to roll right out of my head.
